From Our Own Bags…

Here goes another ramble before yet another midterm…*Instrumental Chemistry Midterm* (just in case I wonder one day which one it was)

Some people just never learn from the mistakes of others. They just have to experience everything their way before they learn. And even when they do experience something and it does not turn out to be to their advantage, they are so stubborn in their ways that they will go through the same situation again, thinking that, somehow, the second time around things *might* be different!

I was discussing this with a friend of mine and we questioned so many scenarios in life we’ve been through. We were trying to find a reason for this type of people when all of a sudden I realized what we were REALLY doing. We were only talking and wasting time before yet another midterm we are ill prepared for!! The discussion went on hold until…probably never!

So, I ask you, why is it that some people have to learn from their own bag while others can pick up lessons from others? What are the pros and the cons?

  1. DaughterofPearls says:

«الشقي من اتعظ بنفسه والسعيد من اتعظ بغيره»

-Arabic proverb: The miserable one is the one that learns lessons from his mistakes, and the happy one is the one who learns from others mistakes…

I find this very, very, very true.
However, when you learn something yourself, the hard way, it usually tends to hit home harder, makes you 100% certain of the severe consequences of something… You might see others’ mistakes and say, “Ya, but not ME, I would handle it differently if I was in that situation…”

But I think the ultimate essence of wisdom is the ability to learn and reflect from EVERY mistake, regardless of whose mistake it was…
